Upper Dolpo trekking is a remote and unspoiled area lying near the Nepal-Tibet border and situated in high altitude of Tibetan region in western Himalayan of Nepal. This region is rich in ethnic Tibetan arts, customs and tradition as mainly Tibetans are inhabited here. The people here rarely speak and understand Nepali language as they mostly speak Tibetan language. It is the Prohibited Kingdom and the barred trekking destinations of Nepal. It was only since eighties, when this region was opened for trekkers and foreigners. Upper Dolpo trekking inaugurate at the north-west region behind the Dhaulagiri geological formation, towards the Tibetan highland. This region is the habitat of Himalayan wild animals such as Himalayan Blue Sheep, rare Snow Leopard and Musk Deer which makes it as Eco-trekking trail too.
Located in the northern part of Nepal, Upper Dolpo is least exposed so it allows trekking to explore many unseen parts of the region. During the trail, we come across many beautiful villages with local settlements, interesting and extraordinary places, outstanding mountain and dense greenery forest of Rhododendrons, Pines, Oaks and many more. There are old Buddhist monasteries situated from a century which is known as Shey Gompa, soaring peaks, pristine lake, etc. The main attraction of this region is an ancient, breathtaking landscapes, isolated village of Ringmo and amazing Shey Phoksundo Lake, which is the deepest lake of Nepal. The best time to visit this region is in summer and monsoon season and avoids trekking in winter due to heavy snowfall. The trekking starts from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj flight that takes about 45 minutes and another flight to Jhupal.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel
Upon the arrival at Tribhuban International Airport, a representative from Great Vision Trek & Expedition will receive you and transfer to the hotel have bookedWe will go to Great Vision Trek & Expedition if you arrive earlier in a day, if not we will make settlement of due amount and introduce guide.
Day 02: Trek preparation and city tour
Today, we tour to heritage sites at Kathmandu. We start a guide tour from your hotel to four heritage site in Kathmandu which is listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. First we visit to Pashupatinath Temple situated in Gausala and banks of Bagmati River where Aryaghat, famous funeral site for Hindus lies. After sightseeing, we visit to Boudhanatha, the Buddhists shrine which is one of the largest stupa in the world. Boudhhanath is one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimages that include over 50 Tibetan Gompas or monasteries and popular tourist destination. Tour leads to Kathmandu Durbar Square also known as Basantapur holds the medieval king’s palaces who had ruled over Kathmandu Kingdom once. Our last tour will be Swayambhu (the self-existent) which is one of the famous touristic areas where we find large number of monkey population. After sightseeing, we go back to you hotel and you can take rest and prepare for trekking.
Day 03: Fly to Nepalgunj and stay at hotel
Next day, we will take a flight from Kathmandu to Nepal experiencing Himalaya views. Afetr we reach Nepalgunj, we will transfer to the Hotel we have booked.
Day 04: Fly from Nepalgunj to Jhupal and same day trek to Sulighat (2070m) 3 hours
After we take our breakfast at hotel, we will transfer to Nepalgunj where we take a flight to Jhupal experiencing high mountains. After we arrive Jhupal, we will get porters who will carry our luggage then we have our lunch then walk down towards Thuli Bheri River bank, passing terraced field and beautiful village. The trail heads to the today’s destination Sulighat crossing the bridge. Here we stay overnight at the Hotel.
Day 05: Trek from Sulighat to Renje (3010m)5-6 hours
Next morning we head to Renje. The trail passes through the bridge and heads Jyalhasa which is the settlement of Rimgmo village. Walking up and down the hill, we reach the trail junction to Phoksundo Lake then to Chepka. From Chepka, we climb up a small ridge crossing west side and continue upstream and finally reach renje campsite.
Day 06: Trek from Renje to Ringmo Village (3640m) and Phoksundo Lake (3630m) 5-6 hours
From the Renje, we walk through up ridge then down the wooden bridge leading us to Pungma River and the Phoksundo River lying along the valley floor. We cross the Phuksundo River and to the forest of Birch and Chir pine from where we climb up to the Ringmo a charming village.
Day 07: Trek from Phoksundo Lake to Phoksundo Khola (3630m)4-5 hours
After breakfast, the hike continues peripheral the shore of the lake because it curves on a rocky ridge on the western bank of the lake. The path is uneven and is suspended on a gangway of wood that's maintained by pegs driven into the cleft within the rocks -the 1st example of the remoteness of the realm. Day 09: Trek from Phoksundo Bhanjyang to Shey Gumpa (4390m) Via Kang La- Pass (5160m) 5-6 hours
We wake up early, have breakfast and head to Kang La pass. The steep path affected by slate talus makes the walk quite strenuous. Day 12: Trek from Namgung to Sadlang (3660m) 4-5 hours

Day 13: Trek Sadlang to Yangjze (4960m) 4-5 hours

Day 16: Trek from Jeng- La Phedi to Do Tarap (4080m) via Jeng- La Pass (5090m) 6-7 hours
After breakfast at the Phedi, around 2 hours of uphill climb can take us to the highest of the Jeng La pass that greets us with an exquisite view of snow ranges and therefore the north face of mountain peak geological formation. Day 21: Trek from Dunai to Jhupal (2330m)3 hours
From Dunai, we continue our walk to the flat trail along Thuli Bheri River, crossing terraced fields and villages, we will reach Jhupal which is about 3 hours of walk.
Day 22: Jhupal to Nepaljung
We have a flight that takes you from Jhupal to Nepalgunj. After arrival in Nepalgunj, we will go to a Hotel and relax.
Day 23: Nepaljung to Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel
Next morning, we will take a flight from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu. Then head to Hotel where you can relax, have fun and have delicious dinner.
Day 24: Final Departure
This is your last day in Kathmandu so you can enjoy your meal, go shopping before flight. Our representative with driver will take you to the airport for departure.
