Island Peak (6,189m), one of the popular trekking peaks is also known as Imja Tse situated in the Khumbu region of Nepal. In 1951, Eric Shipton’s party named this peak as Island Peak as when we view from Dingboche, this peaks seems like an island in a sea of ice. It is actually an extension of rim coming down off the south end of Lhotse Shar detached by a small col. It was in 1956, when Swiss team first climb Island peak then the peak gained popularity and since then it has been used as the trekking peak.
