Chitwan National Park is listed as a Natural World Heritage Site and is the most popular safari destination in Nepal. It covers a unique ecosystem, containing hills, ox-bow lakes and flood plains. Dominated by sal forests, the park has 50 species of grasses. The 43 species of animals include the endangered one- horned rhino, the spotted chittal, Royal Bengal tiger, gharial, crocodile, gaur, wild elephant, four horned antelope, stripped hyena, pangolin, Gangetic dolphin, monitor lizard, cobra krait and rat snake. Elephant safari provides an opportunity to get a closer view of the endangered One-horned Rhinoceros. You may also get a glimpse of the elusive Bengal tiger. The Elephant Breeding Center at Khorsor, Sauraha gives you information on domesticated elephant and the baby elephants born there.

The best time to visit for Chitwan Jungle Safari is from October to February, this is the dry season and much possibility of seeing tiger and other wildlife as they are more likely to visit waterholes in a few concentrated areas. It is also possible to visit Chitwan from March to May, however the grasses are seen growing longer allowing some of the animals to hide and from June onward it gets very hot and humid.

The summer days are typically hot with 30 degree Celsius on average day temperature. The monsoon usually begins at the end of June and continues until September. The mean annual rainfall is about 2150 mm and during this time of the year rivers are flooded and most of the roads are virtually closed.
