Langtang Region Trekking

Langtang Region is one of the famous and nearest trekking trails from Kathmandu. Rich in natural beauty and culture, Langtang lies north of the Kathmandu Valley and near close Tibet China border above 130 km. Langtang National park is the forth national park of Nepal lying between the Himalayan range to the north and dominated by Langtang Lirung (7,245 m), smaller peaks to the south – Ganja La pass (5122 m), Chimse Danda (ridge) and Dorje Lakpa (6,989 m) and the highest peak in the area.

Langtang Region

This area is visited by fewer tourists as the trek is adventurous and challenging. Visit to this area provides opportunity for visitors to explore Tamang’s culture, their lifestyle and their unique language, craftsmanship, houses and dress. Langtang is popular for its many glaciers which has more than 70 different sizes. There lies Dudhkunda, Gosainkunda, Bhairavkunda and Parvatikunda which are the high altitude lakes. The region has sub-alpine vegetation and temperate forest. Wildlife includes migratory monkey, deer, pika and tahr as well as migratory birds. TheLangtang River passes through the high, gentle Langtang Valley before emptying in a raging torrent into the Bhote Kosi Riverthrough a long, narrow defile at the west end of the valley. Whereas the major rivers of Nepal flow south from Tibet passing through the Langtang River, Himalaya chain, a major tributary of the Trisuli Ganga, flows east to west, cutting, as it were, across the grain of the country. Above Dunche lies The Trisuli or Bhote Koshi that forms an essential corridor and ancient trade route through the mountains between the Ganesh and Langtang Himal, to Kerong in Tibet.

GOSAIKUNDA: Apart from Langtang, treks are often organized to the holy Gosaikunda Lake at 4,380 m that covers abundant of the Langtang parkland, and Helambu. Gosaikunda is alleged to possess been created by Lord Shiva once He thrust His lance into a mountain to draw water to cool down his throat when swallowing poison. Thousands of devotees visit Gosainkunda throughout Janai Purnima (full moon competition in August).

KYANGJIN: Visitors will extend their keep in Langtang to trek to Kyanjin and explore the upper valley to Langshisa and on the far side.

TAMANG HERITAGE TRAIL: The Tamang Heritage path takes you through abundant midlands of Kingdom of Nepal experiencing the wonder of this mountain region and also the culture of the folk’s that live here. The path passes through ancient Tamang villages wherever life, culture and crafts have remained unchanged since the start of the settlement. The path starts eight from Dhunche or Syabrubesi and passes through Gojng, Gatlang, Chilime, Thuman, Timure and Briddim. BRIDDIM: Briddim (2,229 m) is a small but beautiful village of Tamang offering Himalayan cultural experience within the type of accommodation. There are almost 432 houses among them about half of the houses offers accommodation at their houses. The villages is located on the newly development Tamang Heritage Site. Climate

Langtang region lies at the high altitude so the temperatures are usually low. During winter season the temperature gets extreme low and snowfalls in the higher altitude while in summer season it gets cool and temperate when the sun rise respectively gets cold and chilly after the sun sets. March-May and October-November is the best month to visit this region.

Permit Fee

To enter the Langtang region, you must obtain TIMS Card and Park Entry Permit from the Tourist Service Center located at Bhrikutimanda, Kathmandu. To trek to Timure and Thuman, visitors should take the Trekking permit from Immigration Department located at Kalikasthan Kathmandu.

Access/Accommodation

The trail is accessed Dhunche which is 117 km from Kathmandu by road. Teahouses are well served in most of the trekking routes in Langtang and Helambu which makes independent trekking quite possible. The trail has facilities of hotels and lodges with camping sites and options.
